Quick loading site - speed up your web pages

You must be sure that you have quick loading web pages on your site. Each page of your web site must display quickly on your visitor's computer screen - quick loading is an important aspect of website optimization and search engine optimization. Speed is more and more an attribute of our world and people are getting more and more impatient. On the other hand World Wide Web is expanding all over the globe and a lot of Internet users have only 28.8 Kbps dial-up connections. Make sure that what your web site offers gets to them and that you have quick loading web pages even for slow Internet connections and "antique" computers.

A "must" of website optimization: Keep your scripts simple - besides helping quick loading this also is a must for search engine optimization of your web site (more details - in "DUDI's F_ree Website Optimization Guide" e-book).

Don't add unnecessary complicated web graphics on your web pages (a good web logo might be enough). Keep special effects and animations to a minimum to enable quick loading of your web pages. Try to impress your visitors with content-rich web pages and wise web graphics instead of displaying only images and fancy color schemes. Think twice before using Flash animations, Java scripts etc. - it's not a good website optimization policy! Use these on your web pages only if you really need to make a point. Don't use complex and/or picture backgrounds for your tables. All the above-mentioned will ensure a "quick loading" site and are also recommended by most of the website optimization, graphics optimization and search engine optimization specialists.

If you must have other pictures / web graphics on your web pages, beside your web logo (which is essential), choose carefully their screen size ant type of file (further reading on this topic in the Website Optimization f_ree e-book - the chapter on quick loading and graphics optimization and in the articles on this site).

Website Optimization, Graphics Optimization... should web pages look good?

Yes! As a common-sense rule, put yourself in the shoes of the visitor that decides to click on your URL. Try to impartially examine what you like or dislike on your web pages (pagination, color schemes, web graphics). Don't forget though that you must try to positively impress as many people as you can in order to get traffic and good results with your web site. Making your web site agreable (don't forget the quick loading issue, though!) can be considered another aspect of website optimization, but only from the human visitor's point of view - search engines' spiders will not mind if you use unapropriate combined colors or bad looking web graphics, for example.

Basically, you must get MAXIMAL EFFECTS WITH MINIMAL RESOURCES. I think it best defines what web efficiency is all about and this should be your motto when you create a site according to the rules of quick loading, website optimization, graphics optimization and search engine optimization.

Another SEO rule: Keep the text content on your web pages simple and easily understandable. Don't use long and/or complicated sentences. If you feel that some terms in your texts might need definitions or explanations use a separate "glossary" section. Moreover, your content must be easily accessible and not overwhelming for search engines (crawlers) as well.

Web Graphics Optimization - is it essential in Website Optimization and SEO?

Yes! As a sub-chapter of website optimization for quick loading, we must talk about web graphics optimization of your web site. You need some colors and web graphics on your pages, to make them more attractive. Of course, for a web page which is supposed to deliver only pure information, you can have less or no web graphics, but even there you must add a web logo and/or a graphic header and maybe some harmonized colors as backgrounds. You can decide to go with a general, ready-made web graphics (web logo, header etc.) - find some in F_ree Stuff section of EWOLWE.com. Or, you can have one made just for you or your organization. My advice here is to go with a freelancer, rather than a company - you will at least get the same results probably with less money.

As a matter of fact, graphic design, graphics optimization and web graphics are my first area of expertise (I do it since 1995) and I will share with you some valuable info here:
Graphics Optimization Tip 1:
Keep in mind that YOU NEED a web logo: attractive, suggestive, but compact, ready to be displayed correctly even on older computers.
Graphics Optimization Tip 2: If you decide to hire somebody to create an original web logo for you, check carefully his work. Check a web logo; see if you like it, then right-click your mouse on it and go to "Properties" in the menu that appears. Check the size of the GIF or JPG file (see more details in my f_ree website optimization e-book);
Graphics Optimization Tip 3: In terms of website optimization, graphics optimization and search engine optimization, the size of the web graphics on your pages is critical. To achieve quick loading for low speed connections and old computers you should keep your web pages under 15 Kb or under 10 Kb, if possible. This includes script, web graphics and all the elements wich are displayed;
Graphics Optimization Tip 4: when checking a web logo (or other web graphics), you can make another test: change the settings of your display to 256 colors (without restarting your computers, of course). Look then at the web logo again and see how the graphics are altered by this change. Low or no alteration means that the graphic designer did his job well, according to website optimization and graphics optimization rules (further reading - in my f_ree e-book);
Graphics Optimization Tip 5: When considering to use web graphics on your web pages keep in mind that it is possible to achieve great results with minimal resources. You can have great web logos or headers in 5, 6, 7 or 8 colors - striking and compact! It is possible and, most important, meets website optimization requests.
Graphics Optimization Tip 6: Go with the original web graphics! There are ideas that appear on web pages and which a lot of graphic designers hurry to copy. Don't fall for web graphics like these; it will be "in fashion" today, maybe tomorrow, but soon it will become obsolete. Browse the web, see different kinds of web logos / web graphics and tell to your designer that you want something fresh. Give him / her some guidelines or pertinent suggestions on the web graphics you need. Remind him the graphics optimization issue. If he/she is a good professional, will creativelly use your ideas to create a genuine web logo.

There are a lot of thinks to say about quick loading, web graphics and graphics optimization, but I don't want anybody bored before going through my entire guide. You will find other details in "DUDI's F_ree Website Optimization Guide" e-book and my next e-book ("DUDI's Complete Website Optimization Guide") will "dissect" this topic.
